Anniversary appeal as car seized in hunt for drive-by shooting killer
Detectives will be at the scene of a fatal shooting in Birmingham tonight a week on from the murder of Mekel Sterling.
Mr Sterling, known locally as Skelly, died after a drive-by shooting outside shops in Great Hampton Row, Hockley on Wednesday 13 September just after 9.30pm.
Officers will be in the area talking to residents and doing house to house enquiries in their efforts to track down his killer.
Detective Chief Inspector Edward Foster, from the force’s homicide team, said: “Our investigation is making good progress and we have recovered a silver Volkswagen Golf, which we believe was used in the shooting.
“This is now being forensically examined and we are confident that it will lead us to Mekel’s killer.
“I would like to hear from anyone who saw the car in the Hockley area last Wednesday, which made off from the scene at speed. Maybe you swerved to avoid it, or you saw the occupants acting suspiciously.
“Every bit of information is vital to our investigation and I would urge anyone who can help to contact my team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Mekel’s family continue to be supported by specially trained officers and are being fully updated with the latest developments.
