Investigation launched following shooting in Far Gosford Street, Coventry

We’re investigating after a man was injured in a shooting on Far Gosford Street in Coventry last night (16 October).

The 18-year-old was sat in a Vauxhall Corsa when he was shot at around 11.45pm. He turned up at hospital a short time later, where he’s being treated for an injury to his arm.

We believe that the person responsible arrived and left the scene in a car, and we’re appealing to anyone with any information about the vehicle to contact us as soon as possible.

Far Gosford Street is a busy area and we know there would have been people there at the time. Were you there? Did you see anything? Do you have dash-cam or mobile phone footage of what happened? If so, we want to hear from you.

Local policing Inspector Jonathan Peepall, said: “Sadly this is another instance of dangerous violence on the streets of the city centre. No-one deserves to have this happen to them and there is absolutely no justification for an attack like this in our society.

“I know that local people are extremely worried about what has happened, as it follows another shooting that took place in the same street last month.

“We’ve stepped up patrols in the area to reassure and engage with local people and businesses over the coming days, as a team of detectives work round the clock to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

"Our enquiries are at a very early stage and I would like to appeal to anyone who has information which may assist to get in touch. Please contact us or Crimestoppers directly and tell us what you know - we must all work together to bring those responsible to justice and ensure that Coventry is a safe place to live, work and enjoy.”

Anyone with information is asked to get in contact via Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, or call 101 anytime.

To remain 100% anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 - Tell them what you know, not who you are. Please quote crime number 20CV/252758J/20.
