UPDATED: Teenager charged by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit

A 16-year-old boy from Rugby has been remanded in custody after appearing before magistrates on terrorism charges. 

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons due to his age, was arrested on 3 September from his home address during a pre-planned operation.

He was last night (Monday 9 September) charged with the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism under section 5 of the Terrorism Act, he is also charged with six counts of collecting terrorism information under section 58 of the Terrorism Act. 

He has been remanded in youth detention and will next appear at the Central Criminal Court on 4 October.

He will appear before Westminster Magistrates Court tomorrow (Tuesday 10 September).

A 62-year-old man arrested on 3 September from a separate address in Rugby remains on bail while enquiries continue.
